stronger 3v3
doing 3v3 with mates, just wondering wats stronger DK/enh/priest or dk/hunter/priest.
cheers.
Both kinda suck tbh. I've seen one enhance in arena in about 5 months. DK/hunter/pally is a good setup, however, so if you have to choose between the two comps listed above, I'd choose dk/hunter/priest
quick fix for blood tanking
With Improved Bloodstrike we gain damage, crit, and healing that applies strictly to DS. Why not get rid of the crit, which is unnecessary for tanks anyway, and give us 6-7% hit chance. The hit chance would be strictly tied to DS so as not to be overpowered and 1-2% of hit would be easy to get. And if that seems to op replace the crit with an 8% reduction to parry chance so that at 26 expertise DS can not be parried or dodged.
Correct if I'm wrong but either way would be easy to implement and would not be ridiculously op whereas it applies strictly to DS. Also it would be a great step in the right direction to making DK tanks just a little less spiky.

So how gear dependent is UH dps?
I recently picked up the 378 Axe off shannox as well as a few other pieces, and moved from DW frost (2x 353 weapons) and my dps did go up just not as consistently as i wanted. Probably from 14kish (average i had higher and lower) to 16kish I have hit as hitgh as 22k and as low as 13 depending on fight mechanics. I am just wondering if I will get higher performance out of 2h frost given my gear or if 2h UH will probably be my best bet unless I can lay my hands on a pair of the 378 boe 1h axes (unlikely). Personally I prefer unholy as it is seen less often and fits my consistency over potential play style.
So for the more experienced dps DKs out there the real question is should I just keep grinding out the JP and t11 upgrades I can get and stick with UH or will Frost give me more while getting the gear to back UH up?
All class/spec combos depend on gear. You won't magically jump up 6k DPS once you reach a magic item level. Your gear, as is, doesn't support UH very well at all. If you want to do Unholy, you need to trade all of your expertise for Haste and Mastery.
Switch to D/W frost, get better gear, continue to be D/W frost, and put out more damage then you will as Unholy. If you want to play unholy, because you like the play style better, or whatever your reason, then play Unholy, but you're going to want to go read up on stat weights for unholy. It's not a matter of gear dependance, there's no magical point in gear level where unholy is going to be better then D/W frost at this point.

Unholy PvP: How to
Hey all, I've played Frost exclusively and know all there is to know.
I only play 2s with a healer so the DpS is all me.
I was wanting to give unholy a try but I have only two questions.
1. Typical rotation to kill healers.
2. Typical rotation to purely DpS.
Both as Unholy. I know there isn't a "rotation", but surely there is a typical way to down each. Thank you
Now I don't play a DK. So don't take my word for it. But I'm pretty sure you want to Necrotic Strike as much as you can.. so like.
Chains, Plague Strike or Necrotic strike, Necrotic Strike. Then frost rune and two blood runes into death runes. Festering strike plus a blood strike or pestilence. Then go to town with necrotics.
I dunno, something like that.
keep your diseases up, and get 5 deathcoils to make pet an abom and summon gargoyle.
Once you've done that necrotic strike and Festering Strike are your friend. ;)
I understand things will different when i hit lvl cap, but I'm wondering why everyone is cutting Scourge Strike from their PvP burst rotations. At my level, it hits like a Mack truck. Is this not the case at 85, or is the utility of the other strikes too important to justify spending the runes?

Frost spec DW heirloom
If I go frost DW for weapons should I use the agility/crit 2.8 sword and then 2.8 Parry sword?
Yes.
No. Use 2 agil maces. they give haste which really helps out the build all around. The agil part doesnt matter till 80 anyways, this is how i did it and was literally blowing EVERYTHING up till i hit cata content and had to switch weapons.

PVP Presence
Just getting into a little PVP on my Deathknight. What Presence should I use as a Lvl 85 Frost DW Dk? Thanks!
Unholy presence for 2h frost/dw frost/2h unholy. The GCD decrease is essential for pvp

PVP- Rogue or DK?
Hey all, i'm curious about the state of Death knights for pvp atm. ive got one at 80, and am lvling up my rogue(currently 84) and i just want to know what class would be a better for pvp atm.
unholy dk 2s help please
hey guys, im currently at 1600 rating in 2s with my resto shaman, i have all 371 gear n gettin my weapon next tuesday. i know my character prrtty thoroughly, n have a razer naga so every spells keybound but i was wondering what the best partner for 2s is, i thinking another uh dk would be unstoppable burst, also i lovefrost but i feel like uh is better for 2s cuz ns spam, can frost be as good? also hows dw frost im interested in trying it, also any helpfulcriticisn on my talents specs or glyphs would be awesome, and any general advice on otations etc for either spec and what i could do to raise my rating higher, thanks! :)
Pally or DK?
Looking for a character for end game pvp/pve casual play. Debating between a pally or dk because both have the option to tank, are melee, and have dps specs. Wondering what the pros and cons are, and whether one would be better for a more casual player?
For a casual player I would suggest a pally. They're a hybrid and are pretty easy to play. for pvp i like the bubble shield and for PvE the healing.
For DK, i use frost which is the DPS class and the rotation is simple. Im not sure about the survivability.
For Pally, I do less DPS than my frost, but i survive longer with heals.
Pally, way easier to get into tanking as a pally than as a DK, I have no real opinions on pvp.
Good deal, appreciate the information.
I figured DK tanking was a bit trickier than a pally. At least it appears that way.
Though, If you wanna be a DK, make a DK. You can learn, it's not like if pally is easier you NEED to make a pally.
Pally Tanking:
Pros
Rotation is simple and easy to get into
Pally tanks are some of the most desired tanks, due to a raid CD and great survivability
Cons
Perhaps too simple of a rotation, sometimes I feel like I'm just a dps that gets smacked in the face.
DK Tanking:
Pros
If you know what you're doing, you could be an amazing tank, especially if you're just doing casual play
More involving and rewarding, if you do it right.
Cons
Many flawed mechanics, though not as noticeable in casual content
Can be the worst tank if you don't properly research the class and cycle CDs
As for DPS, I personally prefer DK DPS. You'll generally do a lot better with an equal gear level as a DK, especially as frost. The rotation is very simple. Ret is based on a lot of RNG and CDs. You can get lucky and do amazing, or not so lucky and do pretty horrid.
Pallys, however, do have the option of healing, which I would consider a pro as well.
If your interest in tanking is greater than null go paladin. Blizzard will adjust their dps soon. Death Knight tanking is going to be a train-wreck for the rest of the expansion. Paladin tanks are just so vastly superior and have been since Ulduar.
If you tank as a paladin you risk losing your sanity, your life, and your cookies. . . Its that annoyingly easy
Ret is almost as bad, you will only lose most your sanity and your cookies
Id rather have very little fun than mountains of kitten-punching frustration. Go Pallie.

4.2 Frost DK PvP questions
Heey guys, k before we start, I know im just a little level 70 :D. But im just trying to get frost dk pvp cleared up before level 85 so i know what im doing. K lets get started.
I'm pretty sure ill be going DW. And i'm pretty sure that means ill be in frost pres all the time. Correct me if im wrong.
And do DW frost dks use obliterate at all? Or should i use my runes up on death strike instead?
What runeforges should i have on my weapons?
Whats a general rotation for a dw frost dk loook like?
I've heard frost dks say, "Spam HB to build runic power then do a frost strike dump." I've been trying that and it hasn't been going well so far..
Should I spec into rime and annhilation?
Thanks in advance guys :D.
Obliterate is strictly situational in a sense that you only use it against clothies under 35% health with diseases.
HB is not the only thing you'll be spamming. It's both Necrotic Strike and HB.
In a perfect world, I guess it's something like Outbreak -> NS x4 -> HB x2 -> FS dump.
(you'd want to spam Necrotic Strike as much as you can on healers. It deprives them of heals. It's amazing)
In PvP, you'd want Unholy Pressence, Lower GCD = More spells in the long run. the speed boost is nice as well.
Hello, i'll help out.
First of all, the guy above me isn't necessarily wrong, but he's talking about 2h Frost and not DW so no hard feelings but ignore all that.
Edit: STACK MASTERY
On to your questions;
1. You will use unholy presence for either frost or unholy spec.
2. DW frost will never use Oblit because we don't spec into Annihilation. (See my secondary spec for a starting place for speccing DW frost correctly. (As DW you can choose between speccing into the blood tree for 1min strangulates (as i did), or the unholy tree for desecration. Its a personal prefence/arena comp decision)
3. You want to use Razorice and Cinderglacier on your weps
4. Okay so the key to playing Frost successfully is Runic Power management. What you don't want is getting Killing Machine procs, and not having any RP to use them so you waddle around auto attacking like a tard . So yes you want to use your death and frost runes on either Howling Blast or Chains of Ice. This leaves you with two unholy runs that you will use necrotic on. However HB and Frost strikes are a far higher priority.
5. Rime is useless in PvP, annhilation is for 2h peeps for occaisionally obliterate of leather/cloth below 35%
That should get you started. Also a side note, you'll need to reforge your gear for 2% hit, you get the other 3 passively
Your welcome

Survivability as Frost in Solo pve
Hey guys,
I just got my DK to 85 after having him sit idle since wotlk. Gearing up is going well, slow but well. I am reforging to hit/expertise to cap, following the pve guide listed up top. My damage is amazing, however I find in solo pve 2-3 mobs give me trouble, even with the dark succor glyph, and my cooldowns.
I can kill them fine, they however can bring my health down quick, especially if I don't get procs. I try to make use of death strike, but it seems like I get burned down a tad fast in solo pve. I know it's probably a gear thing, but figured I would ask. Any ideas?
I am dw frost if it matters.
You are a glass cannon for the most part, try not to pull more than 1-2 at a time if you don't like seeing your health dip.
Depends on what your solo'ing I suppose. You can always leave your DPS gear on and go blood spec for the tougher fights. This is what I do for the Elite mobs and mini-bosses in the Molten Front. This works for soloing raids too.
Edit: didn't look at your gear first. You've got to get a lot more gear before you can solo 3+ mobs. Once you do though, it's ez.
Thank you all, and sarghurim I am already gearing up much quicker than anticipated. If my armory updated, I was very blessed these past two days, especially with the weapons from Heroic Deadmines to tide me over till ZA/ZG.
Appreciate the input guys

So leveling rotations, right?
SO I'mma quest as frost 2h.
For frost, all I know is that I should get diseases up, obliterate and use frost strike as a runic dumb. What else should I know/how should I get the diseases up/what's a more efficient way of doing this? It seems neat except I'd just like to know more so I can play around and have fun instead of feeling like I'm mashing random buttons.

Frost DW pvp
Does it matter what main hand and off hand you actually equip im currently wearing a s9 one sword in MH and a Axe in the offhand click on my character pic to check my armory currently the dmg is fine the burst is great getting 16k main hand crits and 15k off hand crits with a killing machine/obliterate proc but thats on clothies ^^ lol but give me your advice cuz i've seen some frost pvp dks with the same weaps some with differant weaps
The game rolls a random number between bottom and top-end damage and that's the number you get. Seriously. It doesn't get any more complicated that that. All of those STR weapons are the same 2.6 speed. The damage ranges vary a bit, but that's it. There's no miracle choice.
The bro's with different weapons are probably doing that for racial bonuses (like +expertise) be a bamf and buy what looks the coolest to you.
It's all about racial benefits. I'm a human and I get +3 expertise wielding a sword or a mace. Expertise is important to me in PvP because I rarely get parried by a plate class or a rogue. I know for Worgens your critical increases for holding an axe. If you want to be a better player I would recommend wielding a weapon that best suits your race's specializations. It'll save you some trouble in the future when setting up your stat priorities.

Killing Machine
So do I NEVER use KM on FS or is it ok if i can? I ask this because a few of the guides that i've been reading and watching say to just use KM on Obliterate. But I feel like its a dps loss when I just stand there waiting for my runes to refill just to use the proc. So is it alright if I use KM procs on FS or should I be using KM solely on Obliterate?
if its 3seconds cd left on oblit dont wait use it on fs. chances are in that 3 sec it'll be up again anyways, yes standing around doing nothing is a bigger waste than using it on fs
It's...kind of a split second decision you have to make sometimes to max your DPS. Personally I go with the rule that if KM is up, and I have 1sec time to wait on an Oblit, I'll wait. Otherwise I'll just use FS. Waiting too long will hinder DPS more than it will help it. I have enough haste that KM procs pretty often, so it's a whatever thing.
In a PvP situation use whatever you can to do any DPS towards your target. If you happen to use FS instead of OB that's alright. As long as you do some damage that's fine. For PvE you might have a little more time to think so use whatever fits best.

frost pvp macros
Hey guys i will only pvp on this toon so i was wondering if anyone could tell me good macros like i know theres 2 healing macros but may you guys share more. thanks so much
Here's a few useful ones:
"1 shot macro (not really but)"
/cast vicious gladiator's badge of victory
/cast pillar of frost
/cast horn of winter *this can any GCD you want it to be really, but having it as HoW I find is useful.
"MF focus"
#showtooltip mind freeze
/cast [target=focus, exists] mind freeze; mind freeze
"Strang focus"
#showtooltip strangulate
/cast [target=focus, exists] strangulate; strangulate
"DC self-heal"
#showtooltip Lichborne
/cast !Lichborne;
/cast [target=player] Death Coil
"Chains focus"
#showtooltip Chains of Ice
/cast [target=focus]Chains of Ice
"Grip focus"
#showtooltip death grip
/cast [target=focus, exists] death grip; death grip
A lot of really basic ones but yeah, using them makes your life that much easier.
For that I use
/Cast Vicious Gladiator's Bade of Victory (13 or 14)
/Cast Blood Tap
/Cast Pillar of Frost
Only downside is that you have to click on it 3 times. But since I button spam anyway, the time it takes in between each action (specifically from blood tap into pillar of frost) is practically really really small, barely noticeable. (I've practically clicked the hotkey fast enough that both timers started on 20 seconds and counted down at the same time.)
I also hate having to wait for a frost rune to use a cooldown, so when all my runes are down, blood tap activates into a pillar of frost, and then ERW for a refresh in runes.
@OP You can also use
#showtooltip Death pact
/castsequence Raise Dead, Death Pact
Yeah, I can see how that would help, I usually only pop it when I know I can (and usually with Unholy Strength is procced)

Fresh 85 - Stats question.
Hey guys, I just got 85 on my DK and I'm playing mainly frost for PvP. As far as I've seen, most ppl reforge everything to mastery for PvP, and to haste for PvE. I really enjoy playing unholy too, and I'd like to know if I could reforge everything to haste and play both specs well (cuz unholy with mastery is not a good idea I guess). The idea is to play both spces with the same gear.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
If you have chillblains, you dont need desa?
Thats the impression I'm under. If I'm specced into chillblains, which adds a slow to HB, than putting points in desecration is not needed correct?
This is strictly for pvp, by the way.
Deleted by Redrabbit
Still take Desa its game changing unless your DW then I would go with the sub blood spec which wont allow you to grab desa but you hardly NS as DW anyway
I would keep chillbains and Desecration because you should always be using necrotic strike in PvP regardless if your duelwield or 2h. The chance to absorb some heals is vital for all DKs.
What am I giving up in my current spec to get desecration then?
bump
Probably something like this
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/tool/talent-calculator#dc01!Y!kYehSZeTaQ!Sb
If you don't take desecration you won't really be able to stick to a healer running around a pillar if he doesn't want you to. Not to mention it passively slows their dps as well. Which we all know they're going to be right behind you ripping you a new one.
I will always suggest against taking desecration as with DW frost, since you need to always HB for the RP for KM frost strikes your target will more than likely always be slowed.
I also like going into blood because dks are squishy enough as is and I prefer the survivability from blade barrier and the control from a 1 min strang more than anything to be gained in the unholy tree.
This is strictly for pvp, by the way.

Blood DK PVP FC?
I'm looking into making a blood spec for flag carrying in Rated BG's and had a few questions. Looking through the forums I see that I should be reforging to mastery where possible but I had some questions as far as enchants and glyphs.
For enchants such as gloves I have seen that some dks are taking mastery over strength. Which enchants would be more beneficial? Also I know that blood dks do fairly low damage in pvp so is it worth it to take spell pen at all? Since it would only effect diseases I don't really see it being something overly worth gemming or chanting for unless there isn't a viable alternative like possibly a cloak.
Also could someone point me at a good blood dk that I could possibly look at to see how they may be specced?
Thanks in advance.
Feel free to use my spec, it works great for me (great self-healing). Also, this may just be my personal opinion, but dont overly stack mastery, alot times when your the FC youre gettin trained from behind *cough*. I found it has worked well to balance out your mastery, stamina, dodge, parry etc as much as possible. Ive yet to lose a battle where I was the FC, but then again, Ive also had some really great healers behind me.
Idk too much about the "science" behind blood FCing. I often hear Resil>Stam yet I see more and more FC's Stacking Stam. Idk. My stuff has been working pretty well yet Idk.
Thanks for the advice. We just haven't had a consistent FC for our RBG's so I was looking into possibly doing it. I'm more most consistent DPS and would prefer to do that but sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do to help the group.
ANd very true bout the healers. Good healers make or break a good RBG.
I run Warsong Gulch more than any other BG and have a lot of experience as FC. I tested out a lot of different combinations with reforging, gems, enchants just so I could get the best survivability for FC. So go ahead and take a look at my statistics and see what has worked best for me (although you need to work with what abilities your race has to offer too).
I also keep three different Trinkets for different situations in BG's, I have two alchemist stones, one with extra stam, one for strength (although I don't use the strength much in FC situations) and I keep Gladiators badge of Victory and Gladiators medallion of Tenacity, together giving me much more resil than you will see with my profile the way it is currently. If there are a bunch of melee I concentrate on Stamina because it works hand in hand with Mastery. If there are more ranged/casters then I'll use my extra resilience.
Try to keep your options open but one thing that is a necessity is a large amount of stamina. If you're going to be a flag carrier, then from the moment you appear in the room you should have enough stamina for everyone to know that you are the best choice for FC (Just make sure that you have the skill and experience to back it up otherwise you'll just end up assisting in a loss.)

Color coded Ability Icons...
We Death Knights have alot to juggle while in combat since we use Runes.
Does anyone else think it would be helpful to have color dot icons like we have for Blood, Frost, and Unholy Runes, which show their active cooldowns in each ability Icon which correspond to the actual Runes they use?
Just simply the Color of the Rune they use(.) So at-a-glance you can see what Rune or Runes the Abilities call for.
I know we have the abilities become unhighlighted when the are used as a visual que, but this would be something to help manage Rune use in the flow of combat.

Tired of the haste stackers.
Mastery > Haste. In addition. Frost Presence > Unholy Presence. You get better sustained damage from it. That is all.
Too soon! What is the meaning of this claim?!
EDIT: But on a serious note, is this mastery stacked/Frost Presence viable?
Probably not
Why are you tired of them? Just let them do what they want and you do your thing. You can see who does more on the charts.
Haste > mastery. unholy pres > frost pres.
EJ says otherwise.
I'm sorry, 30k single target dps in 5+ min fights isn't sustainable enough when stacking haste. 2 weeks ago
Also, faster run speed is HUGE.
What are you all talking about? It's been proven several times, Frost still edges unholy numbers wise. Also, if you're going to take Mastery over haste then you would need to keep IFP instead of ditching it for Chilblains like most frost specs do for Chilblains. Anyhow, show your proof before throwing out your speculations/assumptions.
In 5 mans all it is is burst damage. On a serious note, it is viable. And don't listen to everything EJ says. I remember when Cataclysm first launched and they said to reforge away from haste. And for run speed, simply put mastery + run speed on your boots. You don't sacrifice a terrible amount of dps and you run faster...maybe not as fast as UH presence but with Frost presence and mastery you can get more out of your FS considering you use it more often than Obliterate.
I'm not sure how organized this is, but whatever. With more mastery you increase 3 abilities: HB, FS, frost fever. With haste you only increase the USE of one: Obliterate.
I mean, I'm not ranked or anything. But I can do greater sustained damage as compared to my haste stacking friend that is also in my guild. I can burst around 40k and end up at around 26-27k at the end of the fight on easy ones like Baleroc. On 10 man.
@Murava I read your post wrong. I thought you were claiming 30k dps in 5 mans. >.< I was like wut? Sorry about that.
I suppose it's whatever works to get you the numbers you desire. I go with mastery. Others that wish to do so can go with haste.
haste also increases swing speed, and dw melee is 4h top damage, plus increases rune regen, and disease dots, and gcds. so...... only obliterate?
and if a stat increases ur number 1 spell, how is that bad, IF IF IF it is by a substantial amount?
It's not bad. I would agree that haste is a good stat. But going out of your way to reforge mastery to haste wouldn't be a gain, in my opinion.

apologies for not being on my dk, at work with no authenticator...
but u do, seems to me u either go UHP and sack haste, mastery a decent 2nd
or go FP and stack mastery
so it is an all or nothing build. plus with the extra talents go into UH for better dots and forget Chillblains, or go more into blood for damage and IFP in frost.
cant do both, either one or the other imo, u split and u lose dps.
I'll take haste > mastery until proven otherwise.
Okay, Coming from someone that has ranked. (Just changed my name back I was Ãaliyah) NO mastery is dumb.
You need to understand about frost and how it works. The bulk of frost's dmg is from obliterate, and it always will be. To get enough mastery to make frost strike match the dmg that Obliterate does is nuts.
So basically whats going to end up happening is,
(Now these are just numbers out of my head)
40k ob 50k 40k ob (and Since your being a good dk and saving next to all km procs on Ob)
25k fs 40k fs 30k fs
So that being said your numbers going to do something like
30k dps 28kdps 29k dps 27k dps. Your going to keep going down, and down more because your frost strikes are not going to match up to what your obliterates are doing.
And if your saving your KMs for Frost strike, your being dumb because its not going to do as much as obliterate does with km. About the only way you will get close is using aparatus for mastery.
So basically my point is , the reason all the top frost dks that have ranked are haste is because basically, The more ob's you get off the more sustained dmg you will get because that is your hardest hitting move
(Now if you look at this for just my spelling mistakes, your dumb and you need to go away)
Honestly, im about to try the mastery/frost presence build myself. This unholy haste stacking build just doesnt work for me. You can armory my toon, spec, and what not but I only seem to pull 15.5k consistent dps on the dummy...and in raids (Shannox, Beth, Al'Akir are ones I did last night with flask up) I only do around 17-19k tops.
In BOT I was doing around 33-35k on halfus, 16k on the twins and council only around 14-15k
WTF am I doing wrong? If I need to make a new post about all this I will but I have read every guide on these forums AND the EJ guide. I am still experiencing "dead" moments in my rotation where no runes are up and I have no runic power...and im just white hitting, and I know this is killing my dps.
I downloaded both DDR and CLCDK for helping this fix the issue but its not...im following clcdk rotation to the tee and still getting these "dead" spots and only 15k dps on dummy with self buffs.
feel free to criticize me if it helps me get better!

That's my Baleroc report. Was wednesday.
I disabled clcdk...focused on EJ priority list and am now getting around 16.2k dps on dummy consistent without any flasks, buffs (other than horn of winter) and pillar of frost. Is this pretty good for my gear or should I be expecting more? Yes, I know dummys are meant for rotation practice and not dps checks but im unable to raid any right now....and the 5 man heroics buff (+15% dmg) doesnt really give me a good idea of what to expect in a raid either.

Just hit lvl 70...
I have a lvl 67 Protection Warrior, a lvl 62 Retribution Palladin, a lvl 61 Beast mastery Hunter.
I like them all in their own way they are cool, especially the Pally and Hunter.
...But the Death Knight...the Unholy Deathknight...the Lich King story...the Runes we use...
I just had to post how purely awesome and fun this class is.
Suffer well my fellow DKs...suffer well. :D

dw frost reforging
i'm trying to calculate which stats to reforge so that i can get the most out of haste and mastery while still maintaining the hit and exptertise caps. some items might make you go ??, but i've restored them to their original stats, trying to figure this out.
Mainhand, Hit -> Haste
OH, Crit -> Exp
Relic, Crit -> Mastery
Helm, Crit -> Exp
Necklace, Mastery -> Haste
Shoulders, No reforging
Cloak, No Reforging
Bracer, Hit -> Haste
Gloves, No Reforging
Pants, Mastery -> Haste
Serrated Brimston, Crit -> Mastery
Gemming is good.
Bracer Enchant should be 50 Str or 50 Haste depnging on your G.
Feet should be 50 Haste.
go to wowreforge.com
Yeah who woulda thought that it takes a supercomputer to do a feature of wow correctly , its seriously pretty good.

Unholy PvP, why no guide ?
Ok so to me, PvP as Unholy DK is the funniest spec ever, I enjoy frost but Unholy is really the best, although it seems like im not doing enough damage, im sure im doing something wrong so, can any good Unholy PvP DK make a thread about this wonderful spec??? Please help the "less" skilled DK. It's also a hard spec because we gotta keybind a whole lot of macro's where frost almost need none. If you guys know a PvP Unholy guide tell me or make one :D
Your gear is terrible and not gemmed or enchanted, of course you do no damage. You have some reforges to mastery but haste is far superior.
Also, unholy doesn't do any burst damage to speak of (the biggest crit i've ever seen in pvp was a 15k festering) Unholy is a constant pressure spec. You do tons of damage, it's just not in big shots.
unholy does more damage but its not as bursty. I'd perfer to be unholy taking down a healer than frost.
Like Easy said unholy does dish out a lotta dmg, just really gotta time the silences to get a healer down. Hey easy might want pick up lil more spell pen gems to get the cap at 195
An Unholy PvP Guide would be very helpful to me! I want to switch from Blood to Unholy PvP, and don't know where to being. If anyone would like to help me, I have a thread here. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2966897024

Unholy PvP Help
Hey Everyone.
I'm new to Unholy PvP (and Unholy all-together), and I've read up on youtube and everything that I could find, but just don't have enough info to get started. First of all, I have no idea what the stat priority is, whether it's the same as their PvE Priority or not, is beyond me. Also, could anyone explain the Priority system that goes on? I know that Diseases should always be up, be in Unholy Presence, and to get 5 stacks of Shadow Fusion for Dark Transformation, but besides that, what would you use against, a pure DPS class, and a healer? Also, I've heard a lot of talk to not use Scourge Strike and have no clue whether or not this is true. Sorry for the noob questions, but completely new to Unholy.
Thank You for the Help!
I believe UH want's Haste over mastery. But Str over all.
Ah thank you. Could anyone else help out as far as SS and Rotation Priority?
Also, I found that most people have a spec of http://www.wowhead.com/talent#jZG0obZbGcdcfuRkd.
Is this the way to go? As I'll be doing more RBG's.
Edit: I'm deciding between the spec above, or this http://www.wowhead.com/talent#jZG0obZfMcdcfuoRu
I just don't know which will provide better bonuses between ebon, UP, or Sudden Doom.
If there's a spec different than those two, feel free to bring it up!
help still appreciated
smash your face against the keyboard and roll it around. Thats all.
Yeah....
Everyone, I found which spec I'm using, and the only thing I need help with at the moment is the Priority Rotation. I'll be experimenting with moves in different situations, but would like to know what you would personally do against, let's say, a lone dps warrior, against a lone priest healer.
Stats Haste and Str.
Againt any single target I start with outbreak if its avail. Then spam SS and FS(I think I'm horrible with names)
Against any healer you want to use mind freeze also if you glyph for strangulate you can silence for 7 secs if you use it while they are casting. You also want to spam Necrotic strike(Again I think thats name) This absords healing and makes cast times longer allowing you to silence with mind freeze.
Also use your AMS when avail and also glyph for it so you get a full 7 secs.
If you need heals you can always spam blood strike hit enpower rune weapon and get 2 more blood strikes in.(Since the nerf this doesnt work as well)
Thank you very much! As I was experimenting, I realized what I needed to be doing and your post really helped!

Quick Questions from a blood DK
What are:
Dodge/Parry cap.
Mastery Preference.
Hit chance
and all those nifty things I'm missing because I'm fail like that.
In order,
No cap.
Depends on if you're stacking avoidance or not.
Your preference.
Avoidance being dodge and parry stacking, right?
Is there a preferred choice [or stated of the better] between Mastery and Avoidance?
Yes, getting dodge/parry instead of mastery.
In 5 mans, mastery, but avoidance will do just fine. For raids, whatever your healers like most.
Thank you :D
I try to stack both as much as poosible. I try to keep my avoidance within 2% of each other and stack/reforge for mastery where I can't stack/reforge for avoidance.
If minimizing the DR, buffed dodge should be right around 4% less than parry if you're using Swordshattering. If you aren't, they should be pretty even.
Or just look at the ratings and keep them roughly even, since that's what causes the DR.
Yeah, no cap really..
But you can't get much better than 102.4% now can you?
Well, of course not, but it's better to just say no cap so people don't get confused and somehow think there is a realistically achievable cap. Like, no reason that I can figure out, people seem to think 2200 rating is "the cap."
Not that you were serious anyway, but you'd need 38640 stat points--perfectly diminished and all going toward dodge/parry--to reach that, which is more than 8 times what you can get on gear currently.

Does damage from Blood Tap break CC?
The title says it all. Does the damage from Blood Tap break CC that breaks on damage.
I'm guessing it does not but just trying to make sure :P
Break CC on yourself or others?
As the health reduction is on yourself, although you can have that removed by getting the Minor Glyph of Blood Tap. (Only "Beneficial" Minor Glyph)
(It costs the health to switch the Blood Rune to a Death Rune, so you're taking damage)
I meant cc on myself like blind and polymorph.
I doubt youd be able to use it since your cc'd.
...But if it works omg...
Yeah, since you're CC'd, you can't use it.

Wtb a decent unholy guide
I was wondering if there was anyone that could point me in the direction of an at least decent and informative unholy pvp guide? I've seen half-assed ones around and they don't help at all.
I played frost PvP before 4.2 and I loved it, as 4.2's rolled around I still love frost for BGs but in arena it just doesn't work unless the team we're up against are scrubs.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good and informative guide, the most I know about unholy right now is, kite melee, apply your dots, spam chains and kite, keep desecrate down, when dark xfer procs, use it and pop unholy frenzy/goyle, and that's it, so far it doesn't work because I can do decent steady damage, but when it comes to burst it doesn't work, i'm also under the impression that unholy is more of a utility, and annoyance, then an actual damage dealing spec.
Arenajunkies might help.
Bump, im looking for one too
www.noxxic.com is a decent area i found, covers most things helped me a lot for other chars
noxxic is a raiding site. completely different

This has a lot of stuff.

dk tier gear
i know this sound might stupid. i am getting gear from dungeons and quests that looks so out of place with my death knight. how or where do i get dk tier gear?
Chest, Legs and Gloves are from Valor. Legs/Gloves can also drop off Occu'thar. Shoulders are off Staghelm and Helm is off Ragnaros in Firelands.
Edit: Oh, I see now that you're like lvl 60. That's the new stuff anyway. DKs, for obvious reasons, don't have any tier gear before WotLK. When you hit 80, you can T7-T10 with JP. At 85, you can buy T11 Chest/Legs/Gloves with JP.
thanks.

What kind of raid dps no's should I see?
Before I got the helm I was doing 24.5k on 25m BH. I think that's not an ideal gauge of dps, as you have some aoe in there, but that's what I had.
On cho-gal last night I think I had around 19k? I forget.
Is that about right? Or should it be higher?
Logs would help.
You have double Cleavers, 25k single target is probably about right.
On an encounter like Cho'gall, with an aoe phase and a single-target phase? I pull 16k with one 359 and one 353....I would expect you to be doing 22-23k.
At ilvl 369? You should be doing more dps than that single target. I know I went to the raid dummy and pulled 20k without+ DPS at ilvl 367 only using self buffs.
I guess the 19k DPS might be dependent on how much running around you were doing and how often you had to run after those stupid eyes.
Thanks both. I should have mentioned for Cho'gal I didn't do any aoe; I was doing interrupts and eyes. Also was my first time ever seeing Cho'gal, so I expect my dps to improve on that fight as I learn it better.
How do I get logs to WoL?
Thank you both, I need to figure out how to get logs so I can get some help on what I'm doing I think.

Casters in Arena
Casters in Arena's at the moment are just ridiculous.
The amount of ranged CC and damage out put means that its nearly impossible to get close to them w/o using charge or DG.
Warlocks are just so f***ing over powered in this patch...
Thanks Blizz for screwing up the balancing for Melee classes in PvP
Silence, root, Interupt, dead....
ITT: unholy dk has problems with caster classes...
did not think it was possible to be that bad
Aren't DKs still considered to be the anti-caster class in PvP? The only caster I can't kill is a good Frost Mage.
I dunno, I roll over them. Sometimes, very rarely, depending on the arena, i can't LoS a good frost mage... otherwise, no problems with casters, I roflstomp locks, shadow priests, most hunters (there have been the occasion my cd's weren't timed right), I laugh at boomers. Of course i'm not in the higher ratings with this guy yet, but we have 3 interrupts, essentially.. we are everything casters hate.
If you got beat by a Warlock, your doing it wrong. Trust me, i know.

Pre-raid gearing?
First character to 85, pretty new to the game (still on the free first month) and my guild is casual so raiding isn't really an option outside of pugs. Kind of lost on what I should be aiming for now for gear, as far as heroics/crafted and Valor Points are concerned. Is it even worth upgrading to the 3 pieces of T12 set or should I be focusing on accessory items with my points?
Thanks :o
Thanks :o

You ain't got to lie to kick it. Today's payday, so just hit up Forever 55 after work and get some cute new things.
I can't decide between Chief Architect's Monocle or The Hexxer's Cover.
I changed some stuff in game now to wait for the armory to update.
It updated on my profile, but not my avatar lol...
I'm diggin' the voodoo mask more than the monocle.
I agree the Voodoo mask is nice, that's Jindoo's mask isn't it?
Also gotta post from my Steampunk Shaman.
That it is. I figure it's a good one to pick since ZG will be going away in Cata.
I also don't think I can play my rogue regularly ever again. Undead Space Wizard forever :(

An idea to make 2H-Frost viable
Create a new rune:
Rune of the Frozen Crusader- Your melee attacks with two handed weapons have a chance of increasing your strength by 15% (or whatever fallen crusader is) and each attack applies the frozen debuff, increasing the targets frost damage taken by 2% per stack up to 5 stacks.
Just have a new rune that combines razor ice and fallen crusader for two handed weapons.
Or buff the damage again. Not sure why it was nerfed in the first place. 2H frost was always behind DW since the start of Cata, yet when they nerfed DW's damage they thought it would be a good idea to also nerf 2H damage.
Oh well Cata has been the expansion of mistakes, I'm sure we'll see many more.
it was for pvp reasons, 2h had pretty good burst because it hit harder than dw
@ Epic prefect idea bro that way my frost strikes will crit 26k on 4k resil targets.
But really how come dps DW get to pick up that rune while i dont :(

Unholy Talent Suggestion
Hrm, a while ago I remember seeing the blue posts in regards to talented DK's playing Frost and not Unholy - and them wanting Unholy back in the game so there's a mix of the two. For the most part, the Unholy Might rebuff was very nice for putting Unholy back on the playing field. If you play in a 10-man guild like I do, you may find you are still unable to play Unholy over Frost for raid balance issues.
The largest nail in the coffin for me is that fact that there is no 10% haste buff in the raid except for my frost spec - and the odd time we swap a shaman in with Windfury totem. Of course, you cannot expect everything to be homogenized to the point buffs are coming out of your behind, but in regards to the Frost VS Unholy debate - Unholy gets handed the short stick.
As said many times, Frost brings large utility that on a spec vs spec basis, Unholy cannot compete with; Chillblains, Endless Winter, Hungering Cold, Improved Icy Talons, Brittle Bones. In you directly compare damage buffs, Frost has 2 physical buffs to bring to a raid, and Unholy has diddily squat, zero. Ebon Plaguebringer will help casters, but how does that make any sense for a Death Knight? I am a physical damage dealer, and to you all I give you a spell debuff that will benefit us nothing.
For the most part, I don't really care about the utility, you can live without it - I can easily do Frost for the odd fight - they are just thumb points for reference in the overstacking Frost has over Unholy. The only thing I would like to see changed is a bit of fair trade. Frost has 2 melee buffs, Unholy has 0 - this should be leveled. Something along the lines of 'Improved Unholy Frenzy' giving the exact same 10% haste buff would benefit a lot of 10-mans and especially my raid. This way both specs provide 2:2 buffs - counting Ebon Plague even though it is not physical.
A lot of buffs/debuffs are provided by 4 classes - so sticking the extra haste ability here shouldn't really be a problem. Typically most classes run on the fair share idea as well, 2:2 each, they each share a certain buff and then have a unique one each. It would be similiar to how BoM is provided by all Paladin specs regardless of specialization. It would simply be that a Death Knight DPS brings 10% Haste, frost or unholy.
Clearly I prefer playing Unholy for personal enjoyment, but am forced to play Frost (which bores me to tears) for the benefit of the raid, buffs and utility. No haste buff is straight up 1000 DPS off my own slate, and it then drops our hunters DPS, the rogue we may have in and lowers our tanks tps/dps even slightly. That's easily 1.00 million damage over a 5 minute fight for 2 DPS and NOBODY likes 1% wipes at 500k. ;D

DK PvP -- Questions
I haven't pvp'd on my deathknight in quite some time and im just now getting back into the flow. So, on that note, I have a few Questions.
1. What has better dmg output/burst dmg/feels the best as a playstyle: 2h frost or dw frost? (frost spec only responses please, nothing about unholy)
2. If DW > 2h, Is Razorice on MH (Mainhand) and Fallen Crusader on OH (Offhand) still the best even though there is now landslide? Or is landslide > than them? I assume its not but always worth asking.
Thanks guys.

Leveling a DK, need some help
Hello to the DK community!
Well, I just made one and have completed up to level 58 but it's just so confusing! The three types of "runic powers" and the mana-like runic power bar just made me herp derp. Maybe it's just me and I'm not fit for a DK but a lot of my spells say they use up this much runes or that much runic power and I'm just like "wait, wuh? :O"
Anyways, a little help on the rotation / spec or even anything would be really appreciated so I'm not lost in space. By the way, I'm leveling as frost so that I can have at least SOME knowledge once I get to 85 and start in our alt raids.
Thank you for any help given, in advance!

green runes = unholy runes
red = blood
blue = Frost
resource bar = Runic Power
Basically any time you expend your runes on strikes (blood strike, heart strike, death strike, obliterate, festering strike, or obliterate) or any other ability that requires runes to activate (dark transformation, death and decay) you gain runic power. Runic power is expended in our RPdump abilities (death coil for unholy, Rune Strike for blood, and frost strike for frost) hitting with said abilities cause our runes to regen faster (random procs for frost/blood, haste based increased regen for unholy) basically you use strikes to build Runic power then use the runic power to bring your runes off cooldown faster, its a fairly elegant system imo though frost and blood can be like playing whackamole some times
this is just basic if you want more in depth explanation there are some rather good stickies at the top of the page (heartless is really well written for unholy) or elitist jerks has some good guides as well
Ah that cleared up a lot :) Thank you!
Any other advice/tips/info would be appreciated.
well since you are leveling as dps, you are not going to get a good feel for either spec until 81 unfortunately as outbreak is gained at that level and it is pretty much a core skill for both dps specs (less so for frost but still)
either of my specs are good starting points though for flat out raid dps DW is generally better than 2h frost (which is what i am atm for my frost spec) and i am specced into chillblains for an aoe slow for bethtilac instead of imp frost pres
stick to frost presence until you get unholy presence which becomes your go to dps presence
once you get it during boss fights you want to macro blood tap and Pillar of frost together and pop them in conjunction with your raise ghoul as a dps cd NEVER pop ghoul w/o Pillar of Frost buff up
after u get howling blast it will replace icy touch for nearly every situation as you will glyph it to apply Frost fever (the exception being when there is cc nearby.
keeping your diseases up is your top priority as dps at all times as they give hefty buffs to all your other damage
Read the sticky, you'll find it just below the 'New Thread' button you shouldn't have pressed.
Runes do take some getting used to, but just like rage and mana it becomes second nature after playing for a bit.

DPS Rotations for Unholy Dk
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anyone knew of a good dps rotation for unholy dk at lvl 64. Also healing macros for blood would be helpful as well.
Thanks in Advance.
Bump
Yea its the undead rouge.
'rotations' are more of an endgame raid kind of thinking and aim
I would assume at 65 you kind of just put diseases on everything, use DND and spam scourge strike + death coil
Otherwise I would recommend reading the stickies and elitistjerks

Fellow frost dk in need of help!
Can someone look my spec over/ gear and give me any tips. I have been banging my head against a wall trying to figure out what im doing wrong.
My gear is ok and pretty solid. Not gonna break 4pc t-11 until i get at least 2pc t-12 which should be tuesday.
I have been told by my GM that my DPS needs to improve and i cant seem to figure it out so it must be my rotation.
Here are my latest logs.

Gear looks good, You're at both Hit and EXP Cap.
From the logs it looks like your damage for Obliterate is SUPER low.
From the looks of it you are using too many of your KM procs on FS instead of Oblit.
Happens when you spam FS too much, or are spamming your buttons instead of tapping them for each CD.
Remember Runic Empowerment can refresh your Runes as well, so dont spam your FS button.
Also if your Obliterate is one second or shorter away from being up and you get KM wait till Oblit is up to use it.
So basically i should not use the FS when Rime is up as much?
Seems like by not using the ability that would lower my DPS or am i wrong. I hit them as they become available should i just wait for the HB and OB procs only?
OB crits a LOT harder than FS, which will raise DPS and Damage Done. Just wait the extra couple of seconds.
You are not prioritizing Obliterate over Frost Strike for KM procs.
I see you had 91 KM procs on the Domo kill, but only 66 FS/OB crits. This is not correct usage of the proc.
Also, Howling Blast shows as 8 uses on the same fight. You had 29 Rime procs. This is your cleave mechanic, especially in the cat phase on this particular fight. This is a free 15k damage singletarget, a lot more on multi-target....why not use it?
Your Blood Fever (plague strike/outbreak) uptime is 81.5% for that fight. Too low.
I don't know if you've already done this, but macroing your Essence into your Pillar is great since they line right up.
Gearing is fine, though you only need 5% hit, so....reforge away from hit.
Is there a good rune tracker that anyone uses that would help me with this? i use docs deathrunes now but only really shows my blood plague up time.
Im not really good with macros how would i set that up. I know how to make a macro but not sure on how it would read to work correctly.
No, you're going to have to actually learn how to play your spec. This is one of the hardest specs in the game, after all. (/endsarcasm)
Someone always has to have a smartass answer. Just because someone asks for help doesnt mean we dont know how to play. L2 not be an !@#$%^-!

I use Forte for my Disease tracking, it also shows my buffs as well in handy timers.
Also as a DK you definately want to try to keybind as much as you can.
I cheat a little bit and use a Nostromo Speedpad, which is awesome.
I have 2 sets of 14 buttons bound to it, using Bartender and Paging using ALT bound to the thumb button on it.
I also have the Warcraft mouse with more buttons bound to it.
I'm not at home right now but I'll throw up a pic of my UI when I get home tonight for you to check out.

Masterwork Elementium Deathblade
Would this be a good weapon to get on a dk? I currently have max blacksmithing any idea on how you learn to make this?
Would be better than a PvP weapon, but it actually has a 3.5 speed which makes it generally not as good as an i359 that you could get in a raid.
You get it from completing Additional Armaments in the Molten Front, which requires you to have 1) unlocked the Molten Front, 2) Unlocked Shadow Wardens, 3) Unlocked Druids of the Talon, and 4) unlocked Damek Bloombeard by completing Additional Armaments. That takes something like 445 Marks of the World Tree in total.
You're probably better off getting the new tier 10 pvp weapons, if you haven't started the molten front quests yet. Other than that its kinda not worth the time unless you plan to sell them to newly 85s players.
On the other hand, the haste/mastery combo is GREAT for UH...
Skullstealer Greataxe
get a shannox pug, he is a loot pinata almost to the same degree as chimaeron

Hungering Cold 1.5 sec cast time...:(
Will they ever change it back? This sucks worse than any other frost nerf to date. Totally changes the playstyle.
I'd like to see it turned into a combination of repentance and an aggro dropper. 1 minute CD, freezes an enemy for 1 minute, and reduces your total threat by 30-40%, with the threat dropping portion working regardless of immunity.
That, or cut the link to howling blast. As it is, its like earthquake except you don't get the option of skipping it. I'd rather have that point somewhere else.

Theres my armory
http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-1v716l88mmj5zdep/analyze/dd/source/?s=1663&e=1961
Theres logs for our last beleroc kill
You can also skim around and look at other logs
But I Honestly think I should be doing more. Like I know on Belroc I wasnt doing the D&D drop, I'm going to start too.
Doing the Unholy Frenzy garg off the bat so I can get 2 off every boss
Doing the normal system and trying to keep DT up as much as possible.
But with my gear I just feel like I should be doing more. Any help or advice or anything? Should I go DW frost with my gear? I have 2 cleavers.
On a 5m fight you should be able to use gargoyle twice.
I guess if you have no downtime you wouldn't be using your horn, but I use it pretty frequently.
As you probably already said... you should be using DND.
Considering you beat out a mage, spriest, hunter and a bunch of others I'd be pretty happy.
Idk just bugs me, feels like I should be doing a little more. But maybe till I get 4 piece i'm stuck. idk.

pve dps-fun factor
I would like to know which is a better option for PVE, frost or unholy. Just need a slight break from tanking all the time and would like a ' fun factor '.
Go Frost for the big numbers.

Revitalizing Army of the Dead
Wouldn't it be cool if AotD worked like Goak; Changing depending on the spec you're using?
Was thinking about how AotD could be made better and just came up with some VERY ROUGH simple ideas:
AotD Blood Edition: You instruct your Army of the Dead to throw themselves in harm's way, forcing each ghoul to absorb up to x amount of damage (Based on their health or something? Maybe it can scale with your Stam?). When a Ghoul dies, it spawns a Contaminated Bloodworm, healing you for x% of the damage you caused during it's life.
AotD Frost Edition: Ghouls are infused with Frost, slowing the attack & casting speed of their target by x% per Ghoul attacking that target. When a Ghoul dies, it empowers the DK with Glacial Infestation, increasing Frost damage dealt by x%(This would stack and refresh the duration with each stack, kind of like Ret's GoaK).
AotD Unholy Edition: Ghouls are irradiated with Bone Blight, dealing damage to anyone around them (This would add some quick & strong AoE to Unholy, perhaps this could carry over to their regular Ghoul?) When a Ghoul dies, it causes an Infectious Corpse Explosion, coating everything in a 5 yard radius in Ghoul's Rot, dealing X (Big) damage over a short period of time and chaining to nearby targets (Maximum 3 chains, maximum 3 stacks).
I'd love to hear from the DK community about how they feel about AOTD as well, like, how it is currently.
Edit: These are just some ideas that were spewed from my brains and onto the screen. Obviously balance wasn't really considered, but it didn't need to be when the aim was to get others thinking about AotD.
By the way, thanks to The_Butcher from MMO-Champion.
Army has a use on Sinestra, and I don't expect it will ever reach that level of usefulness, ever again.
This.......this is actually......a great idea!
Yaya, do this!
That actually sounds pretty amazing. AotD is more of a nuisance than anything else 90% of the time. Making it useful would really be nice.
I like the idea. Would this be talented for each spec, or build into AotD?
This is actually an awesome idea, needs some work for balance but great start :)
AoTD should work like treants for moonkin. We should be able to target them and direct them without being unholy and having them follow the perma ghoul.
The lack of control of the attack makes it inappropriate to use most of the time.
this is a great idea, i like it mostly because it could possibly bring corpse explosion back into the game
Unless and until Army is made instant cast (and stops taunting adds in raids), it will never be a raid viable skill. That being said, I like the suggestion. It would be a valuable addition to my array of CDs as Blood.
And then the #!#@!ing will start.
I agree with the suggestions so far: These were really only some rough ideas, and Unholy is obviously OP.
Was just trying to get people thinking about AotD and how it is currently, and what can be done with it.
Unholy's AotD is kind of ridiculously overpowered. Perhaps if the ghouls in question didn't explode and cause the @@%@load of AoE damage you've described it would be QQ'd about less and inevitably nerfed.
Blood and Frost are nice, though. I like how Blood's AotD acts as a mob of (in)human shields, and Frost could always benefit from boosted Frost damage, though the slowing effect would have to be comparably small if it stack depending on how many ghouls you have out. Maybe in the area of 3-4% per ghoul? The average army is, oh, 8 ghouls strong, so that comes up to 24-32% reduced movement speed/increased casting time, which is roughly on par with, say, Frost Bolt.
Also, small question: when you say "when a ghoul dies," are you referring to when they're actually killed by mobs/players, or when their timer runs out and their spines spontaneously and inexplicably detach at the seams?
My name is Sariane.... and I support this message.
My name is Sajmodé, and I support anything that would be mildly entertaining to screw around with.
This would actually make AotD a useful ability. I honestly cant remember the last time I used it... I might have done it once or twice on sourfang...
I use it all the time.
In Goldshire.
I like this idea! Outside of Sinestra, I can't think of a fight where the add taunt was useful in raids, so any change would be awesome really. Nice post!

Professions
Thinking of leveling my DK to 85 (is at 81 now). Priest is my main. Mostly 5 man content with both toons, as my schedule makes raiding difficult.
I have mining and skinning at 450. I know this isn't ideal in terms of bonuses/perks, I just want to know how gimped it will make me. Should I switch out either or both professions? For what? Thinking mining is okay, and a nice fit with jewel crafting maybe?
Since all you do is 5 man content, it really doesn't matter what your Dk's professions are. If you were to raid with your DK, then it would be ideal to pick up professions like jewel crafting or blacksmithing. Sure with your current two prof's you won't get anything to contribute to your dps and if it really matters to you, then picking up jewel crafting would give you a nice extra 81 strength. But if you plan to mine and skin frequently with your DK to make money, then keep the two professions.
For end game stuff like RBG/Raiding, Id go with Jewel crafting and Black smithing, simply because it will grant you a grand total of 161 extra strength, However if its just 5 mans and the occasional raid when schedule is not busy, Go with something fun and something profitable (Herbing should be okay since it does a haste buff).

Blood in PvP with PvE gear
IT makes you almost unkillable to melee classes my shield is improved with spell dmg from mages, priest, etc with a healer i can be the fc till the debuff hits 100% usually by this time we got 2-0 caps on the flag i suggest that blood shield include magic damage negation so casters can help out with the melee so it would be more balanced i mean really rogues warriors and feral druids have the hardest time killing me they only do usually 2k melee attacks to me and i can spam DS when i got 130 RP to actually keep my shield up at max by rune striking constantly to refresh my runes to avoid any damage it needs something or a hard cap like it did before the patch.
please leave constructive comments
P.S.
I heal for 13K for my DS and the shield is 17k
I DON CAR ABOT GRAMERZ ORZ PUNCTUATION
nope.
pally and warrior shields dont block magic why should yours?
blood shield caps at your max health which you should realistically never reach unless you are being ignored while people are killing someone else and your feeding off them.
adding magic damage absorbtion to blood shield isnt going to decrease your survivability if anything it increases it as currently you will be taking 100% of the damage casters do to you through your shield.
also your current runic power contributes nothing to keeping your shield up.
You clearly have no clue on how DS works, so I am not going to bother to reply.
PS: Playing random scrubs in a random bg tells you nothing about how DKs are balanced in pvp.

Where do Death Knights get all their ghouls
Think about it there cant really be a dead body in every area..... or could there?
Well lets see, In all of Warcrafts history, there was the battle of the ancients, 3 Massive wars involving Orcs and Humans/Elves with the 3rd actually involving the scourge. A scourge invasion owning people, The now on going war with the Horde and Alliance, The argent crusade fighting against the undead, and now the Hippies of the world fighting against Smokey the bears greatest enemy, Things that are fire hazards... Now if you dont add in all the mindless slaugher caused in World PvP, Id say there would be atleast 5 Dead bodies under the ground everywhere in the world, 7-8 in Outlands, and atleast 100 in Northrend.
Edit: Corrected to Warcrafts history, not World of Warcrafts >_>
Lol...do you really wnna go back to the orignal way of summoning ghouls. Were you either spent 50s or had to have a dead body around....
3000 foot long metallic dragon hellspawn harbringer of death flying around killing everyone and you want to know the reasoning behind where the ghouls come from. This is fantasy, not science.
Ghouls R Us: Planting dead bodies so you don't have to! Dead bodies evenly distributed every 30 yards across the face of Azeroth or your money back! Buy after patch 4.0.1 and we'll give you a lifetime supply of corpses FREE! Just pay shipping and handling.

New to DW, 1 Q, looking for suggestions
Question: does runeforging matter, i mean mainhand vs offhand, does it matter which is on which hand?
Suggestions: Please give me suggestions on my gear. I tried to get hit cap (yes i know its 5% but my hit is as low as it goes) and exp cap.
I've played 2H for the longest time and wanted to pull more dps so i switched once cleavers dropped in price on my server. So i used to spam disease>oblit>frost strike mainly, so should i be spamming the same? or should i never oblit unless i have a proc? I mainly have to ask this because im not at home for awhile and the internet here is crap (like 2k ping lol) and cant really test it out that well.
Razorice on mainhand (2% inc dmg on highest dmg source and the buff stacks faster) Crusader on offhand (because its proc is timer based, so offhand doesnt matter)
The priority list for 2h frost and dw frost "rotations" are the same

RAWR or Askmrrobot? (tank)
RAWR is telling me to stack stam (gems) which I thought was not a good thing in Cata. Askmrrobot is suggesting similar to what I currently have.
What do you guys use?
Gem wise? mastery, mastery/stam. Your gemming is fine.
Askmrrobot works fine and has an avoidance preset you and swap to.
whether your stam stacking or piling on the mastery, you will take a metric crap ton of spike damage when bloodshield is down, which it always will be in raids since the bosses will punch through with ease. so in a sense, both are wrong. Try heaping on avoidance, keeping parry and dodge very close together percentage wise while still squeezing as much mastery from your gear as possible.
The stat weights are more or less fine. If you want to stack stam like a fiend just increase it's weight. For the mastery build it's Mastery > Avoidance > Stam > Expertise > Hit which is fine.
Your only choice for stam stacking is trinket choices, SSG vs Swordshattering, and to blue gem or not to blue gem.

Frost DK Questions
I was thinking about rolling a DK, but I had a question about some things.
1. For frost pvp/pve, which one is better, dw or 2h?
2. How is your dps end game?
3. What is currently the best damage spec for dks? I was hoping to play frost, I just wanted to know for sure.
Thanks in advance!
1. For either PvE or PvP, it's DW. 2H Frost got a bit of a nerf that makes DW the clear winner.
2. DKs DPS near the end of PvE is quite high, especially DW Frost. 2H Unholy is close behind.
3. DW Frost is the absolute best for DKs. 2H Unholy, as I mentioned, isn't that far off if you like to wander around with a pet Ghoul.
DW Frost is currently the clear winner among specs.
Overall however..... current top parses (where everyone is very skilled and very A game) place frost at between 11th and 14th place for overall dps, and unholy 2-3 places below that.... meaning.... bottom of the barrel pretty much.
If you have a 378 2h weap vs some 359 1hs, use the 2h...or vice versa. Just use the best set up you can at the time, and change it when upgrades drop.
DW is more fun imo tho...for what thats worth.

Best lvling spec?
So I was wondering what the best leveling spec is for a DK please? Starting one out and I'm having trouble finding the info.If you could tell me why said spec is the best i'd be very appreciative.
Thanks
I leveled unholy 55-80 (because of the boa axe that I had) then I went to dw frost from 80-85. Worked out very well for me.
I leveled as blood, before it became the tanking spec, but given that it's no longer an option I would probably recommend 2H frost. Frost hits hard so you won't need to spend much time dancing around mobs.
Easy answer -
Get 2 1h heirloom maces. Go frost spec Dual Wield.
Howling Blast -> Obliterate -> Obliterate -> Frost strike spam.
Rinse and repeat. Because you dont start with howling, use icy touch before you get it. and you get obliterate at 62, but before 62 u can just use plague / blood strike.
You melt most mobs your level in less than 7 seconds.
Use buffs and survival skills as necessary.
ADD: You can use my talent layout. If you WANT to go 2h for whatever reason, just remove the dual wield talents and place them in the appropriate 2h talents. 2H is slower IMO because of the bigger swing timers and such.
If you dont mind questing, frost. If you absolutely loathe it like i do, go blood.
Ive been leveling this dk for just under a week, i rekn getting to 82 didnt take very long, will be tanking zandalari by tonight.
Thanks

Lichborne or pet heal macro
Basically I'm looking for a macro that does the following:
If I'm not under the effects of lichborne, it heals my ghoul pet.
If I am under the effects of lichborne it heals me without target dancing.
Most of the macro's I'm seeing split this into two different buttons but it seems to me it can fit in one this way. But I don't know. Which is why I'm asking.
You can't have conditionals like that, you'd have to use a mod
/cast [mod:shift] !Lichborne
/cast [@player, mod:shift] Death Coil
/cast [@pet, nomod] Death Coil
something like that
Well poopy.
Thanks for the info Rengerel.

How exactly do I go around leveling as frost
So numerous sources tell me frost is godly for leveling what with the movement speed and all. Right now I'm blood and I do icy touch ->Plague Strike -> Heart strike if there are adds, otherwise spam death strike. Death coil as a rune dump.
I'm just confused about frost. All I really know is to use frost strike as a rune dump over death coil. But... confused from there.
Howling blast -> obliterate -> obliterate -> frost strike x however many.
Rinse and repeat.
Before u get howling replace it with icy touch.
You get obliterate at like 62.... before that just use plague / blood strike.
use your insta crits (killing machine) on obliterate first, or frost if obl is down.
use your free howling / icy casts as soon as they pop.
GO DUAL WIELD, NOT 2H! The killing machine procs are nuts, and stuff melts. Because its hard to get str 1 handers in old content, just use the agil 1handers. the agil mace 1handers from heirlooms work great.
Add: Toss in your buffs / ghoul as u see fit for extra speed in killing, and get the talent that makes you move faster while mounted.
Also, use UNHOLY presence when you get it.... obviously frost until then.
Also If this is for leveling, When you get down the near end of the tree, Ignore Improve frost presence and grab Chillbains, Having a slow is useful sometimes, and Snaring melee mobs in group quests allows you to solo them.
SO I have the 2h heirloom axe. Would 2 1h heirlooms really speed it up that much? or is the difference trivial
Trival is basically a few % damage difference, It does not really matter all that much, When Catacylsm came out, And I went from Unholy to Frost going for Realm First Death Knight, which I did, I used a Two hander the entire time from 80-85 (Mainly because it was Shadowmourne, Until Ring of Blood part 3, then got the 333 Sword). When you finally get into dungeons and raids though is where you want to get the 1 handers, and in the case of PvP, The 2 hander.
MMM if you already have the 2h then using that is fine. The difference for leveling isnt super high, and is more of a preference. I found the 2 1h to be quicker onn each mob, because of wasted swing timer on the 2h. But then again, I already have all the heirlooms... just using the 2h is fine, but if u can afford the 2 1h, get it instead, you will be surprised.
Thanks everyone =) your suggestions are workin out.
I think I might just get a 2nd one hander, just because dual-wielding is so frickin' cool. srz. hrwrhvh wv rw

FROST DPS
Really its a compilation of questions here. Ok so I usually run about 17k DPS in heroics... that seems crazy low to me. I feel like I have good enough gear, and I should be doing considerably better. I was just wondering if I may be missing something. I feel like I struggle with makin my runes work right. I read that I should only use Obliterate when I have FFUU or DD up. But if I have FD UD up or even FD FD up does it not produce the same effect? Is the purose not to keep a FU pair on full CD as often as possible to allow FS to bring it back? And how do I avoide always having a Death rune on CD I feel like I waste a FS when that happens... I tried only using OB when I have FFUU up but I feel like that leaves a ton of Downtime. Anyhow, thanks for all the help :)
17k in 359 seems fine honestly
From what I remember, spam obliterate, use FS for RE, make sure you're in Unholy presence.
too many questions >.<
hit things when they light up. /nod.
also, enchant your gear =/
You dont wanna only use obliterate when both sets of runes are up. This means you always have one set of runes not on cd. This means that they cant be brought back from runic empowerment.
What i generally do is after diseases are up, OB every km proc i get. If a km proc comes up when im down 1 rune, i'll blood tap it. If my runes are about to come up and a km has procced, i'll wait the 1-2 seconds to OB for the km crit (plus it then makes those runes viable to be brought back by runic empowerment), then frost strike.
As frost the key to maximizing your dps is to effectively use KM, and only frost strike when its viable to bring back runes (exception being you're at RP cap). Never OB when you have a rime up, unless you have all your runes up because you're potentially wasting one. There really shouldnt be many times where you have one leftover rune for an extended period of time. If it does occur tho, make the most of it via Blood tap, or if nothing else refresh blood plague between outbreaks with that rune. Although, if you only have one rune up, that means frost strike can proc an extra one, so dumping RP would be advised there
I run about 24-25k dps in heroics with 363ish ilvl gear (note this is with luck of the draw)

Lichborne and Death Coil
I read all about this combination and how you can get 3 quick heals if you RP stack to max before use. I thought what a great build how have I missed this before.. I then came to an obvious problem with using this combo... How do I use the 3 death coils without them just being dps instead of heals? I went out to test my theory and well to my non surprise I was right, I use esc. to release target and get a DC off as a heal but of course the second your hit again focus is put back on thing that is hitting you.
I guess what my question is how are most players using this combo without it being a complete pain in the butt?
Please share your knowledge and secrets :)
i press f1
but u could just set up a macro to target yourself with it first then target current target, so it'l always heal instead of dps when you are in lichborne
Macro it..
This thread has a macro setup for that...two actually or just see the above poster.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2973008242
Or enable alt for self-casting.
Use this one, you just hit it a bunch and it automatically casts the death coil on you without changing your target.

DK self efficiency?
I'm looking to level/gear up an alt here just for funsies on the side of my normal mains. I don't expect i'll have the time to arena seriously on it, so it will probably just be a bg hero for when I'm bored.
Was looking at either gearing my Warrior or leveling my 70 DK. I had originally planned on using for my warrior, but warrior in bg's tends to be a bit reliant on having a pocket healer, and i'm most likely going to be playing this toon solo.
So I was looking into DK to see if it was more self sufficient for solo play pvp. I would have gone Ret for obvious reasons, but Ret is like omg boring. I'm looking for that same sort of self reliance that Ret has, and was wondering if you all thought DK might be a good choice for this type of play. I haven't played one since wrath launch, and I know the death strike nerf has changed things recently.
blood is good against random idiots in BGs with good survivability.
frost is purely a burst spec now with limited survivability.
unholy is a control spec, less bursty, more pressure and i'd say the same limited survivability.
for just random BG fun, i enjoy frost
I probably won't ever try blood for PvP
So as far as frost and unholy's "limited survivability" as you say, how would you compare DK self efficiency to that of say a warrior. Particularly without the help of a pocket healer.
I don't have an 85 warrior to compare, but I'd say warrior is ahead still. MS, stuns, fears, CC breakers, innate heals while doing damage, etc. DKs still seem to be a major train magnet too, people just go out of their way to take out the DK first.

Leveling/solo spec
Just returned to the game about a month ago, been playing my priest, decided to level this guy as well.
I've heard conflicting advice regarding leveling/sol specs. Theorycrafting this (and experimenting just a little), it seems to me that blood may actually be the way to go - lower single target dps, but the increased survivability makes routine multi-mob pulls viable, and you end up killing 3-4 mobs in just a little more than the time it would take to kill a single mob.
Does this make sense?
The common wisdom is to level the spec you want to use at 85 so you can be introduced to all the abilities and arrange the buttons in an organic manner and such.
So, if you want to tank the dk, level him as blood. If you want to dps the dk, level as frost or unholy.
That all said, if you just after faster leveling, it is true that survivability is better than dps. While it takes longer to kill mobs, you more than make up for it by not needing to find your way back to your body and rez after dying.
I definitely recommend blood.
I do frost in bg's and occasionally dps dungeons, but as blood you can pull 3-4 mobs and just heartstrike them down quicker than you could as frost.
Frost single target is better, but pulling 3-4 mobs as frost would cause you way too much downtime, and blood has ended up being much faster for me.
Instant queue tank dungeons are a plus.
In Wrath you hit a lot of ellites and multiple mobs, blood is great most of the time.
Once you hit Cataclysm you are not going to be fighting more than three mobs at a time and you are not going to see an ellite unless the quest giver gave you a pet to help. This means go frost, you will mow through single mobs and multiple mobs only take a couple more seconds. Dropping into blood presence will drive you mad; before going frost you'll tell yourself blood kills fast enough, but once you get frost down blood killing will feel like molases.
Bottom line: go frost for cataclysm where survivability isn't an issue.
Been leveling this guy as blood. Its stupid easy questing or rolling through dungeons.

Haste or mastery..frost pvp.
I know this has been asked a ton, but I was wondering what the latest answer was.

Frost DK pvp questions
I have two questions regarding frost DKs.
1) DW or 2H? (would be nice if you could tell me hit-cap too)
2) Stat priority? (I'm asking mainly Mastery or Haste?)
Thanks in advance!
Hmmm... prolly should've looked at sticky first. sowwiiee

Unholy Pvp
What makes Unholy "better" for pvp then frost in 3s compared to 2s. I've looked over some sites and most of the high rated dks are Unholy. Is it because the have better survivability, synergy, or do the just do more damage when played correctly? From my personal experience (2s only), frost just does a lot more damge over a shorter time.
I have tried to play Unholy, but I just couldnt keep up with double dps teams. I did seem that healers would die faster but in double dps, especially Mage Rogue teams, one cc (ie: polly, kidney, RoF) and I would be dead. I do realise this might be a L2P issue but i feel im am "ok" at playing a Unholy.
When I play frost, if i survive their first opener, I put enough pressure into the rogue so he has to pop his CD this creates a great oppertunity to switch to the mage so rogue pops out to peel. Then just throw a strang on mage and kill rogue. In my opinion rogue mage teams cc is usually what gets us if we don't end the match quickly. If anyone is kind enough to give me a decent reply on the UH v Frost for 3s/2s, it would be appreciated. Also any tips to beating feral teams would be nice.
Why wouldn't frost work with casters?
Personally I think with all cd's popped on equal side (Garg, UF, DT, Trink) unholy does more dmg.
Also unholy does more pressure.
Unholy also has more survivability improved AMS/AMZ + Runic Corruption
= Unholy is Better.
people like frost b/c is super easy to play, there is no ramp up time at all. unholy you actually have to line things up.
unholy synergies very well with casters. ( their diseases increase magic damage taken) they have a lot of control thanks to their ghoul, better mobility thanks to deaths advance, and better survivability compared with frost which is frankly a bit of a glass cannon in pvp.

Unholy 4.2 PvP Rotation
i recently went Unholy after watching some of Finalrequiem's videos lol, and i'm really liking it. the one thing i have trouble w/ is how he gets so many death coils? my rotation is diseases, SS>FS>SS>FS> then after i get 4 death runes, i do SS until my RP is full, then i do death coils to get it down, and i get dark transformation. any tips?
Diseases+6 Necrotic strikes=more RP than SS-FF-SS-FF, also deathcoil whenever you have a free one. The list goes on to include AMSing while taking magic damage. You gain a ton of RP this way. Don't forget about your Empower rune weapon to reset runes and give you an aditional 25 RP.

Solo'ing naxx
Has anyone tryed this as a DK?
I cleared all of it (aside from gluth which is impossible due to mechanics) on 10-man solo last tier
razuvious and patchwerk are probably impossible this tier with the succor nerf
YouTube Mionelol.
She solos everything.
Could't solo gluth, patch, razvious and thradd.Gluth got stacking MS debuff, patch's hateful really hurts and he spams that, raz hits harder than magmaw, and thradd is just not soloable coz of mechanics.not really hard to solo all other naxx boss in 10 man.But they drop !@#$ gold so you may not want to solo them more than once.

Blood DK PvP
So I have been wondering which runeforge will be the best choice for PvP. And I need some help, I was thinking about the Rune of Spellshattering, Rune of Swordshattering, or the usual Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle. Which one do you guys think will be good for PvP? I have my doubts about RoFC, it is nice the +3% healing and the extra dps/parry.
I'd say disarm reduction, as anyone that can is going to try and disarm you.

10's vs 25's
It seems to me that the first raid tier was easier for 25's and Fl's seems harder for 25's specifically majordomo as its had about 1/2 as many 25 man kills. It somehow makes me think of 10 mans like I did back in wrath...oh man your heroic 1/7..awesome! ...oh your a 10 man guild....*akward* nice....

The fact that more guilds have downed 25 rag and heroic 25 shannox then 25 majordomo seems nuts right?

Just wondering, does anyone have a drop rate % for the Obsidium cleaver?
Well, I occassionally Go into Firelands when the weekly guild lockout is all dead with a Boomkin friend, Killing Turtles, Hounds and Scorpions, And besides the lol amounts of Tank trinkets and random stuff that has dropped, Ive yet to see a Obsidium cleaver drop....... So I am some what going to assume it has the lowest % drop rate for all the BoE's items.... Which blows because If your like me, you want two of them right meow.
i saw one cleaver drop on the first day of firelands, since then, none has dropped
Low enough to not drop for my guild since FL opened, including a couple dozen solo trash runs by me.
Lots of other epics to sell FOR cleavers, though. Success.
yeah i got one on my palladin and then they nerfed 2h frost so I have been farming FL but havn't even seen one drop since the first day.
I only saw one drop, and i won the roll! o/
The other one i have, i trade with a shaman for the dagger.
The two of them i got in the first week of FL.
Saw one drop a few days after FL landed (after first drop nerd, before any other drop nerfs). Other than that never, i looked it up on wowwiki tho and it is one of the lowest drop rates.
Had both of mine drop in 2 consecutive weeks w/ guild runs--1 this last Tuesday, 1 the Tuesday prior.
if you're unlucky, you're unlucky...
if you're partially lucky, dropped! but lost the roll!
if you're lucky, you'd have 1 by now...
if you're very lucky, you'd have 2...
if you're rich, just buy them...
but still, first week trash farm, boe plans and patterns, some tank trinks and such, a xbow or 2 and some spires and scalpels... but no cleaver...
cleaver probably has the lowest drop rate...
Took me 3 weeks of farming 4 nights a week to get 1 cleaver. I did however get enough other trash epics to sell and buy my 2nd one.
I am not farming in that place ever again though.
I have seen 3 cleavers (won one as you can see) yet to see an apparatus
Already have my 2 (ya im still 84....) turns out you can make decent gold off enchanting and JC...
sucks that the only str dps one hander is a boe.
RNG says hi
I've gotten both Zoids and the great axe off Shannox, but I've never seen the cleaver drop off trash. At this point I doubt the raid would let me get them.
1%-2% (extremely low) Drop rate from all trash mobs. W/ Potion of treasure finding 3%-14% (very low)
Potion of treasure finding works in FL?
Sucks that the BIS for dual wield frost is again a boe... /boo blizz
I ended up farming 300k worth of stuff the first week or two and found 3 cleavers (those sold within seconds of putting them up) and unfortunately this wasn't my main at the time, just my FL farmer. So all of my boe's I'm wearing on this toon I just bought.
Luckily, the prices on these items are going down quickly now. Cleavers I've seen as low as 23k.

Lichborne...
What is it?
More to the point WHERE is it?
I keep hearing folks say to use it if you have it so you can cast Death Coil on yourself.
I'm kinda newb, so plz be gentle with your comments. :D
Thanks...and suffer well.
2nd tier frost tree. You'll be able to access it in about 10 levels.
You spec into Lichborne in the frost tree, Glyph of Death Coil, and make a /target self macro that spams deathcoil when lichborne is off c/d.
Awesome!
Thanks :D

IBT Spec with shadowfrost
Has anyone tested this spec yet? If so how are the turn outs. People have been saying that with the nerf to Oblit that HB HB PS PS HB HB FS spam is the way to go but it just seems that Oblit would do more dmg over all then PS HB spam.
Yea actually..
You're supposed to outbreak then do oblit 3 times then RP dump...
From what I remember anyways.
Completely different from PvP
h
shaodwfrost is way ahead for AoE with mastery stacking giving a significant increase to HB

Anyone else got this job?
atm i seriously dont have too much trouble doing the job, every now and then there will be like 2 spiderlings with minimal life that i cant finish before i have to truck it to the next position.
i was just curious to peoples set ups
frost/unholy presence?
stack alittle mastery over haste?
icy touch glyph(currently ) /vs obliterate glyph (i want to keep obliterate glyph for last phase)

Im in search for he best add on to manage runes, any chance people can link some of their own ui with the add on they are using?
I cannot manage my runes without Yury's RuneDisplay. It's quite pleasant to look at. You can make it flat, rainbow-shaped or smiley-face-shaped. Since it's beneath my toon, I go with smiley-face shaped. Each rune gets a ticking number countdown after it's been consumed. When a consumed rune comes off cooldown because of Runic Empowerment, it becomes very vivid for a few seconds so that your eyes are drawn to it. Ultimately, nobody should be trying to watch runes that are beneath their player frame in the upper-left corner of the screen. Having to dart your eyes around the screen so fast that your simulated REM, you might go insane and your eyes might get tired really fast.

How to kill warrior?
Hello!
I was wondering if someone could give me some tips on countering warriors in 1v1 situations, in other words, what's the proper way to deal with them?
PS
those are my pve talents for frost, not pvp.
I see thanks for tips, i am gonna do some training on that.

frost 2h -vs- frost dw -vs- unholy dw
Hi.
Ive had a death knight before but that was before cata. now I plan on making a new death knight. I decided on his race being goblin.
I looked at the DK beginner sticky and found blood was the new tanking spec which I thought was frost. I also used to play frost 2 hander style and now I hear that frost is for dual wielding and unholy is for 2 hander. then I hear that frost is ok with 2 hander but not as good. then some people say that is false...
I will dual spec my DK but what im wondering is which is better and what opions you all on the death knight forums have about them.
Frost with a two hander?
Frost with two one handers?
Unholy with a 2 hander.
ill tank with blood so the question is which does better dps and which will help me level faster.

Runeforging BoA weapons.
Do they work on non-Death Knight toons?
No. I know this because when I was leveling my DK as DW Frost, I decided to give it the BoA Vrykul Axe one can get from Archaeology (yes, I know it gave Agility instead of strength, but that damage was insane for the level requirement). After I was done with it, I sent it back to my main and it arrived with no Runeforge on it. So no, DK runes on BoA weapons won't last for other characters.

What presence should I use as a PvP Frost DK?
A lot of people told me to go unholy presence, but this youtube video I was watching told me that I should go frost... If it is a situational thing, let me know when to use what. thanks!
I use unholy presence because i can get more hits off in the same period of time so more burn. Also spamming necrotic with a good snare to kill healers....especially those pesky druids.
Unholy. The reduced global cooldown is too good to drop.
Dks however do sometimes go into Blood Pres when getting trained.
On white damage: 10% boost to dmg from Frost equals 10% attack speed boost from UH.
However imo, .5 seconds off cooldowns + 10% faster rune regen from UH is much better than 10% runic power regen + 10% dmg on special attacks that Frost would bring.
Toss in the 15% movement speed bonus from UH and to me, it's a no brainer.
Faster (more) necrotic strikes to shut down healers. 10% more KM procs from auto-attacks. Faster EVERYTHING. And when paired with the 10% increase in rune regen to help the cooldown reduction not leave you rune starved, it's just amazing for burst.
Think about this: 1.5 second GCD on a strike means 2 strikes every 3 seconds in Frost presence. In UH presence you could do 3 strikes in the same 3 seconds. That is a HUGE increase in dmg - way more than 10%. And if all 3 strikes generated runic power, that's adding a lot more runic power than 2 strikes + 10% more RP generated per strike.
Don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Go duel people twice, once in each stance, and then decide.
I just started pvping on my dk and my gear still kind of sucks but I started off in frost presence and it seemed like I was waiting for my runes a lot when I tried to burst.
I switched to unholy and it's so much easier going after healers being able to get up 4-6 necrotics in just a couple secs and then being able to burst them down.
And if you pop empowered runed weapon to go for a burst kill - you can pull off fs's/ns/oblits so much faster. Plus with K'M procs you can pull off 2 20k+ crits in a second...
Haste is our #1 secondary stat priority.
Mobility and flexibility are must haves in PvP.
I think the answer is clear.
I would like to add this:
Talented Frost Pres gives 14-15% damage boost.
and if you use a speed enchant on boots you run at 107% in frost pres, unholy adds another 8% bringing it to 115%.
just a little extra data to help people make their decision
No its not mastery is...
Used to dps/pvp in frost presence, then i tried unholy presence and said "holy !@#$!" my dps jumped up by a good 3k. The reduced gcd and 15% movement speed increase, as well as attack speed increase is just too good to pass up

What are the BiS Trinkets for Frost?
I want to know what are the BiS Trinkets until you recieve the one of Ragnaros?
In Elitest Jerks it says the BiS Trinkets are as follow:
Vessel of Acceleration & Heart of Rage (Until you get the heroic versions of course)
I understand their the best atm. But the only trinket I can actually get is the Heart of Rage off BWD..
The Vessel.. is a bit harder as it drops off Ragnaros.. and Im not even close to downing him.
So what do you guys think are the BiS trinkets atm.. besides the trinket off Ragnaros..
I know it would be Heart of Rage and something else..
But what? I Currently have:
Fury of Angerforge & Crushing Weight.
Anyway.. my question is.. what can I get at the moment that would be BiS until I get get the Vessel ? License To Slay? Apperently thats awesome.. But I dont see it working.. help please?
Probably get Heart of Rage off Chimeraon and dump Fury. Crit is pretty much the worst stat for Frost, and Fury is full of it. Crushing Weight is awesome, wish I had it. I'd replace DMC:H.
edit: wait, you already said HoR. Apparatus looks decent as well, but I don't think it beats Crushing Weight.
See thats why I'm confused.. because Crushing Weight is Amazing.. yet.. all these sites tell me to get confusing trinkets <_<
id think apparatus is better than hor... ive been using apparatus and crushing weight with no problems finding expertise. now herioc hor might be slightly better than normal apparatus. that may be what you read.
Either way, Heart of Rage, License to Slay, Apparatus, are all going to be better then the Fury you're using now.
