Revitalizing Army of the Dead

Wouldn't it be cool if AotD worked like Goak; Changing depending on the spec you're using?

Was thinking about how AotD could be made better and just came up with some VERY ROUGH simple ideas:

AotD Blood Edition: You instruct your Army of the Dead to throw themselves in harm's way, forcing each ghoul to absorb up to x amount of damage (Based on their health or something? Maybe it can scale with your Stam?). When a Ghoul dies, it spawns a Contaminated Bloodworm, healing you for x% of the damage you caused during it's life.

AotD Frost Edition: Ghouls are infused with Frost, slowing the attack & casting speed of their target by x% per Ghoul attacking that target. When a Ghoul dies, it empowers the DK with Glacial Infestation, increasing Frost damage dealt by x%(This would stack and refresh the duration with each stack, kind of like Ret's GoaK).

AotD Unholy Edition: Ghouls are irradiated with Bone Blight, dealing damage to anyone around them (This would add some quick & strong AoE to Unholy, perhaps this could carry over to their regular Ghoul?) When a Ghoul dies, it causes an Infectious Corpse Explosion, coating everything in a 5 yard radius in Ghoul's Rot, dealing X (Big) damage over a short period of time and chaining to nearby targets (Maximum 3 chains, maximum 3 stacks).

I'd love to hear from the DK community about how they feel about AOTD as well, like, how it is currently.

Edit: These are just some ideas that were spewed from my brains and onto the screen. Obviously balance wasn't really considered, but it didn't need to be when the aim was to get others thinking about AotD.
By the way, thanks to The_Butcher from MMO-Champion.
Army has a use on Sinestra, and I don't expect it will ever reach that level of usefulness, ever again.
This.......this is actually......a great idea!

Yaya, do this!
That actually sounds pretty amazing. AotD is more of a nuisance than anything else 90% of the time. Making it useful would really be nice.
I like the idea. Would this be talented for each spec, or build into AotD?
This is actually an awesome idea, needs some work for balance but great start :)
AoTD should work like treants for moonkin. We should be able to target them and direct them without being unholy and having them follow the perma ghoul.

The lack of control of the attack makes it inappropriate to use most of the time.
this is a great idea, i like it mostly because it could possibly bring corpse explosion back into the game
Unless and until Army is made instant cast (and stops taunting adds in raids), it will never be a raid viable skill. That being said, I like the suggestion. It would be a valuable addition to my array of CDs as Blood.

And then the #!#@!ing will start.
I agree with the suggestions so far: These were really only some rough ideas, and Unholy is obviously OP.

Was just trying to get people thinking about AotD and how it is currently, and what can be done with it.
Unholy's AotD is kind of ridiculously overpowered. Perhaps if the ghouls in question didn't explode and cause the @@%@load of AoE damage you've described it would be QQ'd about less and inevitably nerfed.

Blood and Frost are nice, though. I like how Blood's AotD acts as a mob of (in)human shields, and Frost could always benefit from boosted Frost damage, though the slowing effect would have to be comparably small if it stack depending on how many ghouls you have out. Maybe in the area of 3-4% per ghoul? The average army is, oh, 8 ghouls strong, so that comes up to 24-32% reduced movement speed/increased casting time, which is roughly on par with, say, Frost Bolt.

Also, small question: when you say "when a ghoul dies," are you referring to when they're actually killed by mobs/players, or when their timer runs out and their spines spontaneously and inexplicably detach at the seams?
My name is Sariane.... and I support this message.
My name is Sajmodé, and I support anything that would be mildly entertaining to screw around with.
This would actually make AotD a useful ability. I honestly cant remember the last time I used it... I might have done it once or twice on sourfang...
I use it all the time.

In Goldshire.
I like this idea! Outside of Sinestra, I can't think of a fight where the add taunt was useful in raids, so any change would be awesome really. Nice post!
